Expected for 2024, the Polestar 5 shows itself in advance, through the style patents which have just leaked on the net. The opportunity to discover its design.
Since becoming independent in 2018, Polestar has significantly expanded its catalog. First by launching the Polestar 1, a large 600 horsepower plug-in hybrid sedan, joined the following year by the Polestar 2, the Scandinavian firm’s first electric model. Rival of the Tesla Model 3, it will soon be supported by a second trendy model, namely the Polestar 3, taking the form of an SUV.
But the manufacturer does not want to stop there yet, quite the contrary. And for good reason, it plans to launch another model in 2024, soberly baptized Polestar 5. This is again a sedan, larger this time since it should notably compete with the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and other Mercedes EQS.
A style not totally unknown
If Polestar has not yet communicated about its future creation, our colleagues from MotorTrend have managed to get their hands on the style patents of the large sedan, on the site of the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The opportunity to discover lines that are actually not so new, since they draw their inspiration very largely from those of the Precept concept, unveiled in 2020.
If the sedan which should exceed five meters in length, takes up the light signature as well as the overall design, certain elements have been modified, so that the car can be industrialized and homologated for the road. We notice indeed more conventional mirrors, even if cameras could be used for the most upscale versions. The front blade is also gone, while the glass roof now looks shorter.
A concentration of technologies
If we note that the LIDAR installed at the top of the windshield of the concept has disappeared, perhaps this will be offered on the highest finishes, which could benefit from semi-autonomous driving. Note that the rear window could be replaced by a camera system, as a spokesperson for the brand pointed out a few months ago: “the plan is to use cameras instead of the rear glass“. On board, the presentation should be very technological and very close to the Precept concept, with its large touch screen. The driving position will feature recycled materials.
More than 800 horsepower?
On the other hand, no information has yet been revealed on the technical sheet of this Polestar 5, which will carry a 100% electric motorization. According to the Top Electric SUV site, the sedan would be available in several versions with two or four-wheel drive, up to 871 horsepower. Equipped with an 800-volt system like the Porsche Taycan and based on a new platform, it should carry a 103 kWh battery, allowing it to travel more than 600 km on a single charge.
The Polestar 5 should see its production start at the end of 2024, within the Chinese factory in Chongqing. Deliveries will follow shortly.
