This is at least what emerges from a survey on food waste, conducted by Léger with 1,038 Quebecers between May 20 and 22, 2022, at the request of the Retail Council of Canada (RCCC). According to the study, the expiration date ranks second among the reasons why consumers throw away food.

The CCCD, which represents major retailers such as IGA, Metro, Loblaw, Walmart and Costco, commissioned this survey in view of a meeting bringing together the main players in the food industry, scheduled for June 13. The question of waste will be at the heart of the discussions.

“Transformation of packaging, circular economy, 2e and 3e food lives, new municipal and provincial regulations, the topics will be many, ”reads a press release published on Tuesday.

The survey also reveals that nearly 71% of respondents want to change their consumption habits because of the price increase.
