Mbappé puts on a show in the NBA Draft

Kylian Mbappé, PSG striker, was in New York Thursday evening to attend the NBA Draft in New York. He gave several interviews to the American media in very good English.

Kylian Mbappé attended one of the most anticipated events of the NBA season as a spectator: the draft. The French striker, who finally extended to PSG at the end of May, was at the Barclays Center in New York on Thursday evening to see in particular his compatriot Ousmane Dieng being chosen in eleventh position by New York before being transferred to Oklahoma City.

In a country where football is a sport that is played with the hands (US football), Mbappé was able to measure his high popularity rating with the media. He thus answered two numerous questions in excellent English. He cited LeBron James and Kevin Durant as his two favorite players and the Los Angeles Lakers as his favorite team. “My NBA team is the Lakers, he told ESPN. I think they’re going to change a lot of things. I think they’ve changed coaches and managers. I hope that they’ll get the ring next year.”

His position if he played? “I don’t know, I’m not that good at basketball!”

He also gave some advice to young players before being chosen by one of the thirty NBA franchises. “First of all, they have to enjoy the moment, said the former Monegasque. As I said, it only happens once in a lifetime but it’s only the start of something big. They have to work, they know it’s hard in the NBA but I’m confident because if they’re there, it’s because they have a lot of talent.”

His observation was valid for the Italian Paolo Banchero, chosen in first position by the Orlando Magic and with whom he exchanged during the evening. He also spoke with Adam Silver, big boss of the NBA, after posing for the photographers in front of whom he undertook a juggling exercise with a golden basketball.

Asked about the position he would occupy if he got into basketball, Mbappé remained humble, with a big smile. “I don’t know because I’m not that good at basketball, he laughed. I’m better in the stands watching games and enjoying the moment.”
