Massive product recall in France at Carrefour, these foods should not be eaten, they are contaminated, they are yogurts

Product recall: Which products are affected by the recall procedure?

You will soon bookmark the government site rappel.conso.gouv as not a week goes by without a recall campaign being set up by a major retailer. Visibly, the latter prefer not to check what they put on sale. Today, yoghurts are concerned. Why ? Quite simply the suspicion of enterobacteriaceae contamination. One would almost be tempted to speak of routine.

The products concerned by the procedure are whole milk yoghurts with a natural Vanilla – Lemon – Coconut – Strawberry flavor (eight glass jars), from the Carrefour Originals brand. These were on the shelves of the brand between June 9 and 10. Their expiry date is July 13, 2022, and the international article code is: 3560071019976.

If you find these famous yoghurts in your fridge, you should not eat them. Bring them back to a brand store, you will be reimbursed even if you no longer have the receipt. Otherwise, throw them away, being careful that no one can eat them afterwards. We explain why.

Enterobacteriaceae: what are the risks?

The word enterobacteria probably means nothing to you. On the other hand, we are sure that you know the following bacteria, since they do not stop making the headlines: Salmonella, Escherichia coli (E.coli) or Shigella. Enterobacteriaceae are simply the kind of bacteria that nestle in the digestive tract.

The consequences can be tragic since children have died in France after eating Buitoni pizzas contaminated with E.coli bacteria. If for a majority of people, the symptoms of an infection are close to those of the flu or gastrointestinal illness, for others, the consequences are much more serious.

The OMs indicates that the symptoms, in the days following the contamination, are as follows: ” abdominal cramps and diarrhea which, in some cases, progresses to bloody diarrhea (hemorrhagic colitis)“. Fever and vomiting are also noted among the symptoms. In addition, this bacterium mainly affects the kidneys of children (hence the kidney failure suffered by some young victims). Doctor Lionel Barrand, biological doctor quoted by Le Parisien, does not minimize the risks since the bacterium can ” have catastrophic consequences“.

Indeed, the WHO says, the infection can progress to a life-threatening form“. While healthy adults (and therefore stronger than children) usually recover after about ten days, they can also be more seriously affected. Therefore, if certain symptoms worsen, it is imperative that they consult a doctor in order to be properly treated. But for them, in most cases, the symptoms are those of gastro.

Salmonellosis: how to cure?

Salmonellosis is caused by salmonella. This infection can be serious for humans, with common symptoms similar to those seen above (diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, headache). These symptoms affect the person concerned between three and seven days.

A simple treatment to bring down the fever and reduce the symptoms is usually enough to get rid of the bacteria. It is advisable to rest and drink plenty of water to heal faster. But in some cases, hospitalization is necessary. Indeed, antibiotics are sometimes the only solution to get rid of the bacteria. Especially when you know that in some severe cases, salmonellosis can cause blood infection, and sometimes even arthritis or meningitis.

Never has man seemed so close to being affected by this kind of bacteria. Indeed, it is now difficult to trust the major retailers since product recalls have been counted by the dozens since the beginning of the year. These big names have no excuse, according to Ingrid Kragl, Chief Information Officer at Foodwatch:

»We are not talking about small isolated companies that have made a mistake but multinationals that know very well what they are doing. With each new scandal, we see that the same errors, the same offences, the same levity are repeated. Manufacturers act in reaction, not in prevention“.

Another Product Recall is currently underway at Lidl.
